NFL Draft- Best Fits for Teams in Top 10
Now that the 2016 NFL season is over and most of the draft order is set, let’s look at some of the best fits for the top 10 teams. Remember- this is NOT a mock draft but simply a look at which prospect might fit best with each team in the top 10. So let's take a look at the best fits for teams drafting in the top 10:
1. Cleveland- Jonathan Allen DE Alabama
While Myles Garrett may be the more polished pass rusher of the two, Jonathan Allen is more of a fit for Cleveland’s defense. After adding Emmanuel Ogbah and Carl Nassib through the draft last year, Allen could step in right after at defensive tackle and give Cleveland a stout defensive presence up front.
2. San Francisco- Myles Garrett DE/OLB Texas A&M
The 49ers could consider a quarterback here but with no head coach or general manager it is hard to determine their direction on the offensive side of the ball so they continue to bolster their defense with Myles Garrett. Garrett would step in day 1 as a starter on the outside next to Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner and form a formidable pass rushing group that will stop the likes of Russell Wilson, Davis Johnson and Todd Gurley.
3. Chicago- Malik Hooker S Ohio State
Out of the top 5 teams in this year’s draft, Chicago may be the team who takes a chance on quarterback but they desperately help in the secondary and Malik Hooker would be a perfect fit. Hooker is a ball-hawking safety which tremendous coverage skills who could be the last line of defense for the Bears and something they have lacked for close to a decade.
4. Jacksonville- Leonard Fournette RB LSU
The Jaguars could once again upgrade their secondary but Leonard Fournette would simply be too tempting to pass up. The Jaguars running game was lack-luster this year and Blake Bortles has seemed to regress with his mechanics which is why Jacksonville would be wise to invest in a stud running back like Fournette. Look at what Ezekiel Elliott has done in Dallas, enough said!
5. Tennessee (via LA Rams)- Mike Williams WR Clemson
Out of the top 10 on this list, Mike Williams and the Titans are arguably the best match. Williams the best wide receiver in the draft and would give Marcus Mariota a go-to outside receiver who has great size and is a threat down field on jump ball situations. I see a lot of Alshon Jeffery in Williams and I think the Titans wouldn’t mind having that hype of potential in their offense.
6. New York Jets- Tim Williams OLB Alabama
The Jets have a great defensive line but outside of a few depth players, they lack a true pass rushing threat on the outside and that is why they could consider Tim Williams. Williams is versatile edge rusher who has a great motor and can play in multiple schemes which would be a great match for the Jets defense. This pick would give head coach Todd Bowles another weapon to develop on his defense and hopefully utilize as a future full time starter at outside linebacker.
7. Los Angeles- Jamal Adams S LSU
The Chargers have a pair of talented cornerbacks in Casey Hayward and Jason Verrett but have yet to find their long-term replacement for Eric Weddle and that is why they could look at Jamal Adams. Adams is maybe the most complete safety in this draft and can play all over the field. Look for Adams to compete with Hooker and Jabrill Peppers for the top safety spot.
8. Carolina- Marshon Lattimore CB Ohio State
Since Josh Norman left for Washington, Carolina has struggled to find their next great cornerback and that is why they could upgrade their secondary with Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore is one of the best cover cornerbacks in this draft and with a combination of exceptional confidence and an NFL ready physique, Lattimore could slide right into the #1 cornerback role for the Panthers.
9. Cincinnati- Reuben Foster LB Alabama
The Bengals could look to upgrade their cornerback position along with their pass rush but should instead solidify their linebacker group with Reuben Foster. Foster is the most complete inside linebacker in the draft and has drawn comparisons to fellow Alabama linebackers including Reggie Ragland, CJ Mosley and Dont'a Hightower. Foster is a wrecking ball in the middle and a leader of the defense which would be a perfect piece to add to the Bengals front seven.
10. Buffalo- Mitch Trubisky QB North Carolina
The Bills are once again in some form of rebuild mode after the departure of both Rex and Rob Ryan and with Tyrod Taylor most likely out the door, the Bills could look for their next quarterback in itch Trubisky. Trubisky is risen every draft board and looks to stake his claim as the top quarterback with his excellent accuracy and mobility in and around the pocket to match. Buffalo may look at other options including Clemson’s DeShaun Watson or Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer but if Trubisky somehow falls to them, it may be too hard to pass up at #10.
