College Football Defensive Position Group Post Week 8

DEFENSIVE LINE

1.       ED OLIVER | HOUSTON

2.       RASHAN GARY | MICHIGAN

3.       JEFFERY SIMMONS | MISSISSIPPI STATE

Houston’s Ed Oliver is one of the more talented and technically sound d-lineman who is undersized yet plays with tremendous power and athleticism. Michigan’s Rashan Gary is one of college football’s more physically gifted lineman while Mississippi State’s Jeffery Simmons has the talent of a 1st round pick but has previous off-field drama that may affect his draft stock.

EDGE RUSHER

1.       NICK BOSA | OHIO STATE

2.       CLELIN FERRELL | CLEMSON

3.       JOSH ALLEN | KENTUCKY

It’s no secret Ohio State’s Nick Bosa is the top pass rusher in the class and has since declared for the 2019 draft and will sit out the remainder of the season for the Buckeyes. Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell has been one of the top pass rushers I college football going back to last year and Kentucky’s Josh Allen is an athletic edge rusher who can drop in coverage and is a versatile defender whenever he is on the field.

LINEBACKER

1.       DEVIN WHITE | LSU

2.       MACK WILSON | ALABAMA

3.       TJ EDWARDS | WISCONSIN

LSU’s Devin White looks the part of a top LB prospect and Alabama’s Mack Wilson is built like the typical Alabama LB with good upside for the NFL. Wisconsin’s TJ Edwards is another LB to watch for the rest of the season and another LB to monitor who may make the top 3 before the year ends- Michigan’s Devin Bush.

CORNERBACK

1.       GREEDY WILLIAMS | LSU

2.       DEANDRE BAKER | GEORGIA

3.       LEVONTA TAYLOR | FLORIDA STATE

No CB in the class has more upside and potential this season than LSU’s Greedy Williams. The 6-3 CB has been a tremendous defender for the LSU secondary and will be the top CB drafted come 2019. Georgia’s Deandre Baker is an undersized CB who plays with bigger than his frame and Florida State’s Levonta Taylor is a good coverage CB who is having a good season despite the Seminoles’ disappointing season.

SAFETY

1.       DEIONTE THOMPSON | ALABAMA

2.       TAYLOR RAPP | WASHINGTON

3.       LUKAS DENIS | BOSTON COLLEGE

Alabama’s Deionte Thompson has quickly risen to the top of the safety class and looks the part of a starting NFL safety. Washington’s Taylor Rapp is an intriguing safety prospect with good upside and Boston College’s Lukas Denis is a safety with ball-hawk upside and is fighting to make plays every time he’s on the field.
