2021 NFL Draft- Offensive Prospect - Team Pairings Part II
The 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded with offensive skill talent from top to bottom and it is evident given the amount of media attention towards the QBs, WRs and other skill positions. Here is a breakdown of part II of my series where I pair the top offensive prospects with teams that would fit them best.
Justin fields | qb | ohio state - Carolina panthers
One touted as the future #1 pick in the NFL Draft, Ohio State’s Justin Fields is seemingly falling down draft boards and could be a near perfect fit for HC Matt Rhule and the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers tried to solve their QB dilemma when they brought in Teddy Bridgewater but after a subpar season, the Panthers are on the hunt for their next franchise QB and Fields could be that guy. Not only would Fields have one of the top RBs in Christian McCaffrey but a good complement of playmakers with WRs DJ Moore & Robby Anderson. Let Fields learn from Bridgewater and OC Joe Brady and watch him flourish.
TRAVIS ETIENNE | RB | Clemson - LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
The Los Angeles Chargers have had a fantastic run with star RBs in recent memory including Melvin Gordon and HOFer Ladainian Tomlinson. While Austin Ekeler has been productive over the last couple seasons, the team still lacks a go-to runner who be on the field for every play. Enter Travis Etienne. The Clemson prospect has been one of college football’s most productive RBs amassing over 6,000 total scrimmage yards along with 78 TDs. Los Angles found their QB of the future in second year standout Justin Herbert and the Chargers would certainly do him a favor by getting him a good run game along with an effective target on passing downs.
Jaylen waddle | wr | alabama - DETROIT LIONS
The Detroit Lions lost their two top targets in free agency in WRs Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. They did sign former Raiders WR Tyrell Williams but they still lack a deep threat weapon for QB Jared Goff. Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle is a prospect that can solve these issues for the Lions offense. Waddle is one of the fastest WR prospects in the draft and was a to-go weapon at Alabama for Mac Jones & Tua Tagovailoa. Even though Waddle is recovering from a broken ankle, he still managed to play in the national championship game and has shown has home run playmaking ability and a future pro bowler for the Lions.
Devonta smith | wr | alabama - Miami dolphins
In my previous article I paired Alabama RB Najee Harris with the Miami Dolphins and they could go to the Alabama well again with Tua Tagovailoa’s former teammate and Heisman Trophy winner, Devonta Smith. Smith had arguably one of the best season’s a WR could have in college football and would be a perfect fit for the Dolphins. Miami does currently have a good WR group led by DeVante Parker and newly signed Will Fuller but adding a talent like Smith would give Tagovailoa all the weapons he could ask for and give Miami one of the most complete group offensive weapons in the NFL.
