10 Best Prospect-Team Fits from NFL Draft
Myles Garrett- Browns
- Why not start off with the #1 overall pick. Garrett is a traditional 4-3 DE like Julius Peppers or Mario Williams and is a perfect fit for the Browns 4-3 defense.
Mitchell Trubisky- Bears
- Some may still be shocked by this selection but this may be one of the best teams for Trubisky. Mike Glennon is a bridge QB who can start this season for the Bears and allow Trubisky to absorb as much information as he while backing up Glennon. This situation is very reminiscent of what we expected to see last year with Wentz and Bradford except Glennon will most likely spend the entire 2016 season in Chicago.
Patrick Mahomes- Chiefs
- Like Trubisky, Mahomes is in a perfect situation where he can sit behind Alex Smith and learn from head coach Andy Reid before taking over as the Chiefs franchise QB.
Christian McCaffrey/Curtis Samuel- Panthers
- The Panthers offense lacked explosion this past year and they fixed this issue right away in the draft with Christian McCaffrey & Curtis Samuel. McCaffrey will step into the starting RB role next to Jonathan Stewart and will give the Panthers the much needed versatility they lacked this year while Samuel will provide athleticism and speed all over the field like Tyreek Hill in Kansas City,
Charles Harris- Dolphins
- This pairing is the defensive equivalence of the Trubisky and Mahomes selections in that Harris can start as a rotational pass rusher behind Cameron Wake and eventually take over once Wake retires.
Taco Charlton- Cowboys
- Dallas was in dire need of edge rushers and certainly got one in Taco Charlton. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is one of the most experienced coordinators in the league and with his experience coaching top talent in the past like Julius Peppers and Brian Urlacher he should have no problem developing Charlton.
Dalvin Cook- Vikings
- After falling to the 2nd round, the Vikings had no choice but to trade up to get their guy in Dalvin Cook. With Adrian Peterson moving on to New Orleans, Cook can step in early and share reps with Latavius Murray and eventually become the full-time starter.
Malik McDowell
- McDowell was one of the more interesting prospects because his potential warrants a top 10 pick but he fell to the 2nd round due to lack of consistency and concerns about his work ethic. Even though he fell to the 2ns round, McDowell landed in a great spot with Seattle because of the great coaching within the organization along with the experienced veterans that already play along the defense including Michael Bennett, Bobby Wagner and Cliff Avril. McDowell could step in day 1 and be an immediate contributor without having the extra pressure of being a top pick and the leaders on that team with certainly help McDowell and his effort on the field.
Chris Godwin- Buccaneers
- Tampa Bay lucked out in the 1st round with OJ Howard and did the same in the 3rd round with Chris Godwin. Godwin can be a great complementary WR next to Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson and down the line could eventually replace Jackson as the #2 WR across from Evans and Howard.
Jamaal Williams- Packers
- Green Bay already seems to have found their starting RB last season with converted WR Ty Montgomery but now have a good complementary RB in Jamaal Williams. Williams is more of a physical RB who was very productive at BYU and is a good contrast to Montgomery’s athletic versatility as a RB/WR combo. Williams can start as a good yardage/goal line RB and work his way into the starting lineup.
