Each year there are a hand full of NFL rookies who do are garnered as top prospects and yet seem to fail to live up to their hype in their rookie campaigns. In the 2016 season, some of the players who exceeded expectations include Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott and QB Dak Prescott, Bears RB Jordan Howard and Falcons S Keanu Neal and LB Deion Jones; but two rookies who were unable to have success rookie seasons were Rams QB Jared Goff and Broncos QB Paxton Lynch.

During the 2015 season, the Cardinals took the NFL by storm amassing a 13-3 record behind Palmer who was in consideration for MVP after his most productive season since his tenure with the Bengals. The team also had a myriad of talent including WR Larry Fitzgerald, CB Patrick Peterson, S Tyrann Mathieu and rookie sensation RB David Johnson which made the Cardinals deadly on both offense and defense.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see Blake Bortles; after a tremendous sophomore season in Jacksonville (4,400 yards, 35 TDs) Bortles had major slump in a year in which many thought the Jaguars might take the next step towards a future playoff bid. Instead, Bortles finished the 2016 season with under 4,000 passing yards and only 23 passing TDs. With a new head coach and a go-to weapon at RB in rookie Leonard Fournette, Bortles needs to have a bounce back year if he hopes to be the Jaguars long-term solution at QB for years to come.

Unlike Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch was not fortunate enough to earn the starting QB job in Denver last season, but looks to earn his spot this year after an up and down season from Trevor Siemian. While Lynch did not great production in 2016, he has more upside to the QB position than Siemian and being a 1st round pick, it only seems fitting that Denver give him a chance to show what he can do with a full season under center for the Broncos.
