NFL Draft 2017- Final Mock Draft

The wait is finally over! Tonight is the NFL Draft and I expect it is going to be one of the more interesting drafts we see in a long time. Will Cleveland draft Mitchell Trubisky over Myles Garrett? Will San Francisco or Chicago trade out of the top 3? Will Christian McCaffrey go before Leonard Fournette. These questions will be asked tonight but until then I guess it's time to take a look at my final mock draft:

NFL Draft 2017- Trade Possibilities in the Top 5?

Well it seems like the draft trade rumors are beginning to heat up with a little over a week left until the NFL Draft descends upon the City of Brotherly love on April 27th. A few days ago, MMQB’s Peter King stated that a few teams drafting in the top 10 are looking to trade out of their spot in the top 10 including the 49ers, Bears and Jets. Even though draft trades have now become a common occurrence, what does this news say about the value in the top 10 this year? What can these teams except to get in return if they do indeed decide to trade their pick? Let’s first look at why these teams may want to trade out of their pick.

NFL Draft 2017- Best Fits for Top Prospects

Myles Garrett- 49ers

-          Even though it’s a foregone conclusion that Myles Garrett will be heading to Cleveland with the #1 overall pick, Garrett is certainly a better fit in San Francisco. Garrett is a traditional 4-3 defensive end like 2015 #1 pick Jadeveon Clowney and even though he is athletic enough to be a stand up outside edge rusher in a 3-4, it would be a better investment to keep the Texas A&M standout at his natural position. A defensive line consisting of Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner and Myles Garrett would give San Francisco a pretty dominant pass rushing group going forward for the next 7-10 years.

Patrick Mahomes QB Texas Tech

-          Why not start with a quarterback. Heading into the 2016 college football season, Patrick Mahomes was no more than a gunslinger who had a cannon for an arm but was not polished in his development as a quarterback. Fast forward to the NFL combine and Mahomes has gone from being a mid-round prospect with good upside to a potential last first round, early second round pick with arguably more potential than quarterback in the draft. Don’t be surprised to see his name pop up in the late first round for teams like the Texans, Chiefs or Saints.

NFL Draft- Trade Options for 49ers #2 Pick

The San Francisco 49ers have gone from being one of the more exciting teams to watch in the NFL led by head coach Jim Harbaugh to a rudderless ship without a captain after the failed Chip Kelly experiment. Over the last month, the 49ers have decided to go in a new direction with the hiring of Kyle Shanahan as their head coach under the guidance of new and first time GM John Lynch. Unlike other franchises who hire experienced coaches like the Bears hiring John Fox or when the Chiefs hired Andy Reid, the 49ers set themselves on a rebuilding path led by two men who are relatively new in their new positions.

NFL Free Agency- Best Fits for Top Free Agents

In a few short weeks, the NFL off-season officially kicks into high gear when the free agency period kicks off in March. Leading up to this date though there will be dozens of rumors and rumblings suggesting which players sign with which teams and some of those rumors will most likely come true. While there are a good group of free agents who will most likely take their talents elsewhere, this year may be a year where we see a good chunk of the top free agents re-sign rather than sign with a new team. Let’s look at some of the big name free agents this season and where they might be headed come March 9th. Some of these players may have multiple teams in consideration for their services while others have one match simply because it is hard to envision them with another team entering next season.

NFL Draft- Running Back Revolution?

Since American football was established over 70+ years ago, the only form of offense most teams had was the running game. As football grew to become the national power it is today many of the original teams had themselves elite running games thanks to hall of fame talent including Jim Brown, Gale Sayers and Paul Hornung. Since then we have seen several more establish themselves as the best of the best and even a select few who helped their teams win Superbowls including Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. While the NFL was known as a running game driven league, the tables were soon turning as we began to see an influx of gun slinging quarterbacks who transformed the NFL into a pass happy league.

In a few short weeks, the college football’s best seniors will put their talents on display for the annual Senior Bowl.
