Who Will Be the Next Mitchell Trubisky in College Football

In the NFL it is known that the most important position is QB and it’s not even close. Sure there are teams who win with a defensive juggernaut like the Seahawks or the Broncos, but if a team does not have at least a decent QB, playoff chances are slim to none. For the most part, QBs used to be bona-fide stars in college football who were projected into the NFL since their freshman or sophomore years like Andrew Luck at Stanford or Carson Palmer at USC. Teams handed these types of QBs the keys to the team in hopes they could re-vamp their franchises and so far, some have worked out for the better. But recently, history is beginning to depict a different type of QB taking the NFL Draft by storm and the movement has picked up steam over the last few years.

Did the Cardinals Make a Mistake by Passing on a QB in the 2017 Draft?

The Arizona Cardinals at one point in time were considered one of the best teams in the NFL and a true threat to any team they were matched up against. The team brought in a new head coach in Bruce Arians, who was considered by many to be one of the top offensive-minded coaches in the league, along with a veteran QB in Carson Palmer. During the 2015 season, the Cardinals took the NFL by storm amassing a 13-3 record behind Palmer who was in consideration for MVP after his most productive season since his tenure with the Bengals. The team also had a myriad of talent including WR Larry Fitzgerald, CB Patrick Peterson, S Tyrann Mathieu and rookie sensation RB David Johnson which made the Cardinals deadly on both offense and defense.

Sam Darnold- The Next Andrew Luck?

Over the last few decades, USC football has gone through many stages of ups and downs from national titles and star players to a team with a lack of direction and no stabilization at head coach. Regardless of their success though the USC Trojans are one of college football’s most beloved programs and may be back on top thanks to Rose Bowl sensation, QB Sam Darnold. In 2012, USC landed 4 star QB Max Browne in hopes that the 6-5 gunslinger could bring some success back to the program since the departures of Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez.

Eight Young NFL Players Who Must Step Up Big in 2017

Blake Bortles | QB | Jaguars

It shouldn’t be surprising to see Blake Bortles; after a tremendous sophomore season in Jacksonville (4,400 yards, 35 TDs) Bortles had major slump in a year in which many thought the Jaguars might take the next step towards a future playoff bid. Instead, Bortles finished the 2016 season with under 4,000 passing yards and only 23 passing TDs. With a new head coach and a go-to weapon at RB in rookie Leonard Fournette, Bortles needs to have a bounce back year if he hopes to be the Jaguars long-term solution at QB for years to come.

New York Jets- This Years Cleveland Browns?

Do teams tank in the NFL? Can teams tank in the NFL? Of course no team intentionally loses games because they could lose the interest of their fans, but how far are teams willing to go to find that next franchise changing player? Well it seems like the New York Jets are that team this year in full rebuild mode and it looks like they have their eyes set on a QB like Wyoming's Josh Allen or USC's Sam Darnold in the 2018 NFL Draft.  The Jets will surely have competition for the pick with teams like the 49ers and Browns which is why they have started the rebuild process early.

NFL Second Year Players Looking to Take Big Step in 2017

Paxton Lynch | QB | Denver Broncos

Unlike Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch was not fortunate enough to earn the starting QB job in Denver last season, but looks to earn his spot this year after an up and down season from Trevor Siemian. While Lynch did not great production in 2016, he has more upside to the QB position than Siemian and being a 1st round pick, it only seems fitting that Denver give him a chance to show what he can do with a full season under center for the Broncos.

NFL Rookie-Veteran Camp Battles to Watch

Chicago Bears- Mitchell Trubisky vs Mike Glennon

The Bears signed Mike Glennon this off-season under the assumption he was their new QB for at least this season, but Chicago went ahead and doubled down by selecting Mitchell Trubisky #2 overall. While many believe Glennon will be the starter with Trubisky taking a redshirt year as a backup, let’s not forget that was the plan with Carson Wentz last year too. Yet the Eagles traded Sam Bradford and gave the reigns to Wentz in his rookie year. Even if Glennon is the starter, expect some serious competition this season from Trubisky and if Chicago starts to go downhill, look out for the former Tar Heel late in the season to potentially make a few starts.

Six Predictions/Expectations for 2017 NFL Rookies

Mitchell Trubisky doesn’t see the field this season

-          Being the #2 overall pick means that Mitchell Trubisky should see the field in his rookie year but don’t be surprised if the Bears put him behind other QBs like Mark Sanchez and Connor Shaw. The Bears invested a lot of money into Mike Glennon and with the Bears in rebuild mode, it wouldn’t make much sense to throw Trubisky on the field early this season. Trubisky may see some playing time late in the year but don’t expect to see him play early UNLESS he somehow shows up big in preseason.

Making Sense of Trubisky Going #2 Overall to Chicago

The 1st round of the NFL Draft has come and gone and while there were many shocking and interesting moments throughout the night, no team made a bigger statement than the Chicago Bears. Other teams may have made better selections like the 49ers securing two of the best prospects in the draft in Solomon Thomas and Reuben Foster, but the Bears were the team who made the biggest wave in the 1st round. With Myles Garrett off the board, Bears GM Ryan Pace did not hesitate to get his guy and he did so by trading multiple picks to move up one spot to select…Mitchell Trubisky.
